SAMPLE EXCERPT:

“What was the inspiration behind the creation of this book?”

Lone Wolf hibernated in Picoult’s mind for almost a decade prior to the actual writing. The inspiration for the book started when she found herself sitting beside a neurologist on a long flight and they got into a discussion about a patient’s right to die. She told him that she would write about it someday and made him promise to remember her so that she could call on him again once she started.

Often, when issues involving tragic accidents happen and the victim’s prognosis is irreversible, the opposing parties are usually spouses and parents of the victim. The question, though, is what if siblings are the ones who have to decide? They are equally important and both have the same legal rights to decide. Picoult went further with the dilemma by making one of the siblings underage and the other a prodigal son who barely knows the victim, who happens to be their father. The legal and moral issues, the indecisions and pain of seeing a loved one dying all went into the mix.
